A Car Loan

Used Cars

 For 10 years, I worked in sales for the automotive industry.  4 of those years, I spent on finance side of the business. It was an interesting, yet challenging job.  I got the chance to meet a lot of people and more importantly help a number of people in need of a vehicle.  The interesting part of finance was the process of getting banks to buy the customers loan.

Many of you have purchased vehicles and may know how the process goes.  To begin the process customers come fill out a credit application.  I’ll be the first to tell you that credit means everything when applying for a loan.  My job was to take the application and contact various banks to get customers approved and the best interest rates.  If customers credit was good enough, my job was pretty easy.  If the credit were at any rate questionable, my job became challenging.  From this point the bank would fax or call me back with responses to customers applications.

For most banks, it would be based on a tier system of 0-4.  0 being the best rate, 4 being the worst.  4 also meant decline because of credit history.  If the bank would not buy a customers loan, I would “go to bat” for the customer by calling the banks and arguing a good reason to give this customer a second chance.   Sometimes I would be successful in getting the customer bought, sometimes I wouldn’t.  I remember the national average for apps being bought was 12-15 percent.  I’ll never forget customers coming to me saying I will take anything if you can get me bought.  Many treated me as a “savior” when I successfully completed their loans.

Did you know that God was in the business of buying loans as well?  As a matter of fact, the bible tells us in Romans 3 –23 and 24 that he buys 100 percent of loans.  Some 2000 years ago, God looked down from heaven, and seen that the very people he created was in the greatest need ever known to man till this day.  THEY NEEDED BOUGHT!  God looked at Mankind’s history.  He saw sin, a filthy life credit history.  A people so in enslaved to sin, that no person, no bank, no business could buy them out nor save them. At this point, God could have easily said declined, because that’s what we deserved.

But 1st Corinthians 6:20 tell us you were bought at a price.  Today we celebrate that loan by understanding that God paid our filthy debt with the best rate he had, JESUS CHRIST. While we were still sinners Christ died for us.  And all we have to do in return is honor God with your body.

 I will sing of my Redeemer,
And His wondrous love to me;
On the cruel cross He suffered,
From the curse to set me free.

Sing, oh sing, of my Redeemer,
With His blood, He purchased me.
On the cross, He sealed my pardon,
Paid the debt, and made me free
